In Isaiah 57, God illustrates again his intentions to show mercy and compassion to the broken hearted. He does not break bruised reeds or quench smoldering wicks. In the illustration of this passage, Isaiah is a construction foreman calling men to prepare a highway. The goal is to connect God’s two addresses—his two dwelling places: the throne room of heaven and the heart of a broken sinner.
